day 2: bundt cake planter

Category: DIY | August 9th, 2011

another easy makeover for the makeover week! i had these two awesome bundt cake pans laying around (the one on the left was my grannies). i can say i have never made a cake with these since i’ve had them….so i made them a home for some little plants. got some soil and some plants (and some seeds for one of them) and done. a little more fun than traditional pots.

anyone else love succulents?? i love how they are unique, green (sometimes other colors), very easy to maintain, and stays alive for forever!! i’m working on my green thumb over here, and these plants make me feel better. :) thanks for tuning in on makeover week! what other fun planters have you used??

day 1: dress to top

Category: DIY | August 8th, 2011

who’s excited for this ridiculously easy makeover to start off the makeover party?! haha. i’m a dork i know, but seriously. easy makeover day 1.

i love this dress. but unfortunately, when you have a baby you also get some hips. thanks Penny. ;) so as a result, this dress became a bit too tight and not at all flattering. so tried it on (figured y’all wouldn’t want to see the before pic of it on me. ha), pinned a few places of where i wanted it, made sure not to stab myself when taking it off….and then one nice long cut around the pins and done! *since the fabric is jersey knit i didn’t need to finish the end. it does roll up a teeny bit but i don’t mind. yay for a new shirt!

wish i could say i sewed the lace on as well. but i didn’t. lol. that would be a fun DIY project though. now go see if you have any dresses that you can snip into a top. send me some pics and i’ll feature you on PLC! :)

introducing makeover week!

Category: DIY | August 8th, 2011

hello monday! i have a little project going on this week. everyday this week (well just M-F) i will post a simple makeover project. i’m talking simple….at least forĀ  this week. :) AND this gives you a chance to be featured on PLC…i’d love to see your easy makeovers too. eventually i want to figure out how to do a link up party, but in the meantime you can email me or leave me a comment about your fun project (*doesn’t have to be the same type of project of that day). then i’ll post them for everyone to see! hopefully i’ll get some crafty people to show off! have a great monday!!

DIY vintage flower vases

Category: DIY | August 3rd, 2011

my sister gave me some tiny wine bottles she had sitting around since she didn’t like the taste. i wasn’t sure if i would like it either, but i couldn’t pass up these super cute and tiny bottles. (they are about 6 inches tall. hehe) clearly i knew i could do something with them…they are perfect for single stem flowers! sooo gave them a lil tlc. (also, it gave me an excuse to use this fabulous vintage fabric and vintage lace!)

did a little cutting, wrapping, tying, and yay! **bonus- you can change out the fabric underneath whenever you want since there’s no glue involved). now add some pretty flowers.

might do something similar to this for a special wedding shower coming up! (i’m helping with the decorations…eeek!) i can’t post too much about my ideas…don’t want the bride to be to know everything. that wouldn’t be fun. :)

happy tuesday everyone!

yarn wreath

Category: DIY | August 1st, 2011

yep, that’s right. i joined the club and made a yarn wreath. as common as these things are, they are still super cute. one of the easiest DIYs ever. i even made mine to where i can change out the flowers to whatever i feel like, or match with the seasons. i’m cool like that. (plus it saves me from buying the wreath piece each time. all about saving).
here’s how i got started

just some simple supplies. i started out wrapping the wreath very carefully, trying to make it smooth and clean. **bad idea. don’t do it. trust me. haha.

just wrap it around and around and around…not trying to be perfect. so much easier and faster! plus it looks great afterward too. just make sure to cover the whole wreath (at least the parts you can see when hanging). i used pins too (you can use hot glue too) but this way if i ever wanted to change it out i can.

then made a few of these guys….which i also just pinned in place. i love the idea of just changing out the flowers. and i can keep them for later use with other colors too. so many possibilities! ;)

and yay! (i like how you can see P in the reflection). :) she really wanted the camera too….love those cheeks.

now go make a pretty wreath. it’s easy peasy. happy monday everyone!
