DIY wood painting

Category: DIY | December 1st, 2011

so there was this piece of wood nailed to a tree out front before we moved into our house….and it stayed there for about a year and a half after we moved in. lol. finally took it down (and of course kept it). and gave it a little makeover!

not exactly sure what it says, but this is before.

gave it a nice white coat. didn’t coat the entire thing though. then put on a sea greenish color after..then a tan color. i used the lovely acrylic paint. it’s cheap and dries fast! i did the layers while the paint was still wet so it blended nicely. or at least i think so. ;) (oh and Christmas music in the background makes it better).

so here was the tricky part. i saw this super cute DIY on pinterest and wanted to use this. so i printed it out (it’s supposed to be backwards) and got it all aligned and then went to town (following the instructions word for word).

but sadly, after i rubbed as hard as i could without ripping the paper…this is what i ended up with. umm, nothing. haha. sooo clearly i did something wrong. who knows. (if you find out, please tell! i’d love to try this again)

so i decided to just do it the old fashion way and eye ball it with a pen…

and then painted it. i diluted the paint with a little water to give it a washed out look.

after it dried, which was super fast, i sanded it a bit to make it even more old looking. does it look like i tried too hard?? lol

and yay! for those of you who don’t know….that’s when we got married. :)

our entryway is a work in progress at the moment. i’m liking it above the door. adds a nice touch. :) it was super easy guys! i want to do more! but i have no random wood laying around…anyone close have any they don’t want?? ;)

**don’t forget about the Uprinting poster print giveaway!!! you get to choose whatever print you want. no one has entered yet….so the chances are pretty high! haha.

onesie makeover

Category: DIY | November 29th, 2011

remember when i thought i was dyeing the right color for P’s halloween costume? well the FIRST one i did came out with a stain. (then i did another yellow one which is nice and pretty, but then realized it needed to be orange so did another one…thank goodness i had lots of white onesies). anyways, if you know me then you know i keep everything that i think can be used for some type of makeover/craft. so clearly, i kept the messed up yellow onesie. and here’s a cute/super easy makeover.

1. materials: old/stained clothing, lace (or other trimmings), pins, and sewing maching (or you could be really cool/patient and hand sew it)
2. measure the lace, cut the lace, fold the ends over and sew ends
3. pin in place
4. sew it down
5. and done! easy peasy.

*a little bit goes a long way. i love easy makeovers!

9 & 10 months

Category: baby | November 23rd, 2011

soo i’m a slacker and didn’t take 9 month pics. booo. but here are a few of her when she was 9 months. such a ham!! the last two pics crack me up! the rest are her 10 months. these were taken at her BFF’s 1st birthday party…which will be another post itself. :)

this girl is such a goof. she’s sooo active. (i think her gym class helps with that) ;) she crawls everywhere around the house, following us from room to room. she loves to talk, and i really think she can say dog. ah-dorable. she loves her molly panda, even if molly walks away when she comes near her. haha. she loves to stand up and walk along holding on to stuff. she also does squats too. pretty impressive. already building up those muscles. :) she loves food. just like her mama. except for vegetables. just like her daddy. sigh. she loves being with her family and playing with her friends. oh and she loves to play in the dirt and tries to eat rocks. awesome. she’s getting so big! excited for her first Thanksgiving and for her to try lots of new foods! :)

**see her little onesie? i bedazzled it for her. i’ll show you how/why in a post coming up!
