for the teething baby

Category: baby, DIY | June 30th, 2011

P has been teething for a bit now, pretty much anything she can get her hands and mouth on. ha. it’s been forever since i have worn necklaces but i saw this cute tutorial and saw it as a win/win for both of us! a bit of sunshine posted this super easy and cute tutorial for a teething necklace for her baby girl, so i made one too!

i used some fabric i had laying around that was already washed and some beads from an old necklace i haven’t worn in a long time. followed the simple steps, let P play with/slobber all over the fabric to distract her while i finish braiding, and yay!

(you did not want to see my hair that day) ha

my good friend autumn over at the letter studio, made this sweet piece for penelope. it’s definitely her favorite song. i didn’t have a frame on hand, so i decided to add a little something to it before i put it in her room. :)

found some lace and some ribbon. used the fabulous hot glue fun and glued the lace together. i also rounded the edges on the piece for softer look to go with the lace. and then glued the lace around the edges on the back.

then glued the ribbon to the back like so. doesn’t have to be pretty since no one will see it. makes life easier. :)

and tada! homemade frame. i think it turned out pretty cute. found a little home for it on the wall in her room. i would show better pics of her room but it’s a tad bit messy right now. i am in the process of packing up her nb and 0-3 months clothes and putting out 3-6 and of course 6-9 since she will be fitting into those in no time apparently. so yea….better pics of her room are to come! but yay for cute wall decor! :)

guest post~DIY pleated headband

Category: DIY | April 18th, 2011

Hi guys! I’m Alyssa from Live. Love. Craft., my blog where I blog about the crafts I do and other fun things! Come stop by and say ‘Hi’ sometime! I am so excited to be here blogging today! Kristen was so sweet to ask me to do a guest post! I feel so honored! Today my tutorial is for a cute, pleated headband made from an old shirt! Enjoy!

Supplies:
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Old tee or fabric
Headband (I buy mine at the dollar store.)
Felt scrap
Yarn

1. Cut a rectangle out of your shirt (or whatever fabric you are using.)

2. Fold one of the short ends over and pin.

3. and 4. Make a pleat

5. Continue making pleats all the way down pinning each pleat. Make sure they are all the same size!

6. Once you reach about 3.5 inches, fold the end under and pin

7. Draw out a shape on paper and cut it out

8. Pin template down.

9. Trace around it with chalk.

10. Sew along your lines.

11. Get your hot glue gun heatin’ up and get out your headband, yarn, and felt.

12. Glue yarn around your headband making sure to cover the whole thing.

13. Glue pleated piece on.

14. Glue some felt on the back to secure and you’re good to go!

Now you can wear your headband proudly, and when someone asks where you got it, you can say proudly, “I made it!”

Thank you for reading!

pretty new camera sleeve

Category: DIY | March 24th, 2011

last night i made a camera sleeve! does my camera strap need one? umm, yes! :) definitely makes it prettier and sets mine apart from every other person who has the same cam.

i found a fun and easy tutorial over at maryjanes and galoshes! (i used a thick fabric instead of using interfacing). i originally used this super cute vintage fabric as the base fabric….but i guess it was extra vintagey because it pretty much fell apart after i sewed through it. lol. so second times a charm! here you can see the remains of the first fabric in the middle of the ruffles. i tried to zigziag it to hold it in place but it just fell apart from that too….sooo i just kept it on the ruffles and like the effect it adds. :) mistakes can be pretty.

husband thinks it’s cute and now won’t be caught using the cam out in public. lol whatever! i tried to not make the colors too girlie at least. ;)

maybe this will encourage me to take even more pictures! hope everyone has a blessed day! it’s thursday….closer to the weekend. yay!!
